A Brief Introduction to Someone Who Likes the Color Green

Hi, my name's Sabian Cuevas. I go by my plain and simple first name, Sabian, because I'm always the only "Sabian" in the room and haven't ever had a desire to go by anything else as a result. A few people call me "Sabey" but that's beside the point. My parents were originally going to name me "Damian" but changed their mind because they were naming my twin brother "Sebastian" and wanted something that would sound nice when paired up with his name. "Sabian" was what they came up with, using "Damian" as inspiration for the name but making sure the name started with the letter S. They didn't even realize that someone else already beat them to the idea.

My favorite color is green for no particular reason. It used to be red when I was younger. One day in third grade I randomly realized I like green more. In High School I started picking out more green-colored clothes and I had a green binder, green mechanical pencil, green notebook, etc. My friends noticed and asked me why I was "obsessed" with the color, to which I had no real response other than "I dunno." My Spanish teacher when I was a sophomore at high school told me the color green looked good on me. My friends probably think she contributed to my "problem." Green has become somewhat iconic on me in the eyes of my friends and family to the point where it's practically a meme or a joke that doesn't end. A lot of people tell me that green is an ugly color. Their opinion clearly hasn't changed my opinion. Day one of my speech class at LMC, I spent one third of my introduction speech on the color green similar to what I'm doing now and the class didn't forget my favorite color for the entire semester.

I enjoy writing. Creative writing, just to be clear. As I've learned from my two creative writing courses with Professor Brown at LMC, creative nonfiction exists. I don't particularly enjoy it. I enjoy writing fiction and poetry. I'm currently writing a novel, though at an extremely slow pace to where I might as well consider it as being on hiatus. When sharing a few chapters in Professor Brown's intermediate creative writing class during one of our workshops, everyone seemed to like it. I can't be sure if they genuinely thought it was interesting or if they were just trying to be friendly, but I'll hope for the former. Poems are easier for me to write as opposed to continuing my novel since there's no sense of continuity between poems. Each of them are standalone pieces that I can do at any moment given the right inspiration.

Video games take up too much of my free time. I play all kinds of different video games too. Personally, I don't care too much for first person shooters, but I don't necessarily dislike them. I don't really have a favorite video game genre, but I really love the Kingdom Hearts series. I could talk about Kingdom Hearts for hours due to how overly complex the series is, and I've played the entire series about three times.

My long-term dream goal would be to have a successful video game series made after my novel. It would be the coolest thing ever to me to see the characters I've created go through their story in a video game format and have gamers everywhere enjoy my series. My slightly more realistic dream goal would be to have a career in the video game industry writing the scripts for video games even if it's not about my novel or my characters. My most practical dream is to simply graduate from San Francisco State University and become a creative writing teacher.

  1. Hi Sabian! Welcome to the course! And yup, I won't forget you like green now! I happen to really enjoy creative nonfiction, but it's an acquired taste. I like your goal of not only writing a novel, but having a game made from it. Way to go!

I look forward to working with you this semester!

    1. It probably is. Maybe I just don't enjoy it since I really love fantasy more. And I look forward to working with you as well, Professor!

  2. Hi there Sabian! First off, the color green is not ugly! I mean it may be an ugly color for someones house , like lime green house, yeah thats not the greatest, but overall is such a strong majestic color and I love how much you love and connect to the color. That is awesome.
OK you are the third person I have responded to, who wants to be a creative writing teacher and is currently writing a novel! WOW we all have alot of similarities. Do not beat yourself up for having a slow pace for your novel! I have litterally been writing my novel for over 7 years! Now that is slow. I read once that Jk Rowling took 8 years to complete the first Harry book, so I feel like the longer the better right?! hopefully. You'll get there someday, and I love the idea of having a story turned into a video game, that is brilliant! Maybe have the book come with a link for the video game version as well.. I don't know how it would work but selling your story as a game/book combo is something that no one has done yet! do it! I had never heard of Creative non-fiction but when I read, "True stories, well told" , it really clicked and if done right, I bet there is some really good Creative Non-fiction out there. Thanks for sharing! Nice to meet you via this Intro you seem like a very cool person.

    1. Hi, nice to meet you too Danielle. Totally not taking offense, but the walls of my room are painted "peaceful green" according to the name of the color on the can of paint. It drives my mother insane every time she walks in my room, haha. My novel has been in the works around the same time as yours, hopefully both of our novels get completed some day.

  3. Hello Sabian! I would like you to know that I am sometimes called "Savy" or "Sab" The Savy for obvious reasons and Sab for the fact that I'm a sap. But I though it was amusing that our nicknames are similar. Green is enjoyable and I would love to see your dream realized of having a video game modeled after your novels! How cool would that be? Hope your dreams come true!

    1. Ha! Going to call you "Sab" just for that reason. And thanks, if my novel were to ever get made into a video game I don't know if I would be able to describe how excited I would be.

  4. Hello Sabian! I love your background and color theme! I think it is cool that you are into poetry and writing fiction. My close friend also loves to write fiction but she will not share with me because she thinks I will probably not appreaciate it as much. It is brave of you to share your writing in class with other classmates. I wish you the best with your novel!

  5. Hello Sabian!

My favorite color is red and it still continues to be my favorite color! Just wanted to contrast your green!! I don't have a problem with green, although it isn't always an ugly color. Green is also associated with nature so you can always look at it that way! I also love gaming as well. I love Nintendo the most, especially series such as Mario, Pokemon, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Star Fox, and even some third party such as Sonic or Castlevania. I think it would be amazing to see a video game series made from the novel you are writing! If they were to make a movie though, hopefully they would make it right! Video game movies tend to not have a good track record when it comes to movies. Wish you the best of luck and can't wait to see more of your blog posts!

    1. Hey Bobby! Thanks for supplying the contrast haha. I'm gonna take a wild guess and assume you play Smash Bros as well seeing as how you like Nintendo characters and Sonic. Sonic's my favorite video game character ever, I just try to avoid talking about him since he's in a bad position right now in the gaming community.

  6. Hi Sabian!
It was wonderful to read your introduction. It was very interesting to read about your favorite color being green. It is a pretty color. My favorites happen to be Red and Purple and I have no reason for liking them either. I just do. I also enjoy reading myself and hope to write in the future. It is interesting to see all the different dreams you have. I'm certain you'll do well on whatever path you choose. I wish you luck!

  7. Greetings Sabian
I am also a green as my favorite enthusiast and i also don't have an explanation to why it is my favorite color. Since you said you like creative writing and you are writing a book, I am interested what you will write for this. It would be cool if you are able to create your own game like you've stated.

  8. Hey Sabian! I have to say I really like your name and I think the story behind it is interesting! It’s cool that green is your favorite color, it’s a good color, my hair is sort of green at the moment. It’s nice to see another writer, I was working on a novel, as well, but school has kind of put that on hold for me so I’ve been trying to get back into writing by creating shorter works, I agree that writing poems are a bit easier than taking on a novel filled with plot. I totally relate to video games taking up too much of your free time, I feel like playing video games is all I’ve been doing lately! I think you have really nice goals and I hope they work out for you.

    1. Hi Hailey! Even if your hair is only "sort of green" that's still super cool. My hairstyle is too boring to incorporate any color into it, and I don't know what kind of hairstyle would fit me just to make my hair green haha. I hope you get the time and inspiration to continue working on your novel someday soon!

  9. Hey Sabian! I enjoyed reading your introduction. That's cool that you have a twin brother - do you guys get along pretty good? I'm always interested if siblings that are either twins or are really close in age, and how well they get along. I have a brother who is 11 months younger than I am, and for about a month we are the same age. I also got held back in first grade, so we ended up being in the same grade up until we graduated high school. Kids would always ask if we were twins, and I'd always get so mad for some reason! And I always knew all the questions they'd ask, so I'd just tell them how much older I was and why we were in the same grade.

I also love writing, especially creative writing. And I'm also in the very slow process of writing a book, too. What is your book about?

  10. Hey Sabian! Green used to be my favorite color but now it's red. We're quite the opposite. And wow, that's cool that you have a twin. Your guys' names sound nice together. Good look on writing and finishing up that novel of yours. I'm sure your classmates really meant it when they said it was good! What's your book about?
I look forward to reading your work for the rest of the semester!

  11. Hey Sabian! I also love the color green. Maybe it's because it's the color of my eyes but I usually tell people it's because my moms favorite color is green.
I love writing too. I would love to write a novel someday. I have actually been writing one for a while but I'm not sure if I even want someone reading it. I think it is super cool that you want you future novel to be made it to a video game! I can't wait to see it hit stores.

  12. Nice to meet you Sabian! Thank you for sharing with us some of your interests and goals! My favorite color is also green, there is nothing wrong with that! I think it is awesome that you are writing a novel and how cool it would be if it were made into a video game. Hopefully you could share some of it with us this semester. Looking forward to reading more of your posts!

  13. Hi Sabian,
What an interesting and creative way to come up with your name! Not to mention a cool story you get to tell everyone. When I was younger I used to ask everyone their favorite color and my grandfather’s answer has always stood out to me—still to this day. He said his favorite color is green because it’s the color of money! He is a very quiet and reserved person so I thought his response was quite funny. Anyway, from reading your intro I am entertained by your writing and your style so I know you will do great in your field! Best of luck!
